“Innovative,” “Charismatic,” “Mesmerizing,” are synonymous with the photographic artistry of Donna Permell. For more than 25 years, this much-admired photojournalist has been telling exceptional stories through her cutting-edge use of technology and treatment of celebrity and undiscovered images.
As a highly sought after artist, Donna’s works have crossed the globe appearing in publications such as Elle UK, Essence and Glamour. Her affinity for working with textures, alternative lighting and imagery are evident in her commissioned works. “I have always been a fan of simple stories that address complex issues. I capture images in the same way,” says Permell. “At first blush, one can see a recording artist in my photos, but I see an individual who is improving his or her society through their mission---and that core is expressed through my work."
Similarly, Donna lives with purpose. Since falling in love with the “flash” at the early age of 15, she has perfected her craft and lends her talents to developing the next generation of photographers by mentoring students of the arts and advocating for women around the world. This comment is most evident through her work on Production Partnerships for Woman & Film.
She is also an active member of the Associated Press (AP), National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Advertising Photographers of America (APA) and Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI).
Donna is an Atlanta resident and avid traveler who is currently working on several projects including a pictorial documenting the Strength Influence of Women.
